Guided Tour through the Parliament Building
Below you will find a brief introduction to the rooms and halls open to visitors in the course of the guided tour.
- Upper Vestibule: The entrance gate to the Upper Vestibule on the first floor is opened on the occasion of the Open Day, October 26, to accommodate the numerous visitors and whenever foreign Heads of State are received. The niches in the lateral walls of the Vestibule contain copies of statues of gods and goddesses of Antiquity.
- Colonnaded Hall (Peristyle): Built in the style of a Greek temple on the Acropolis of Athens, this hall at the very centre of the Parliament Building is one of the most prestigious halls of the Republic of Austria
- Historic Meeting Hall: Inspired by ancient Greek theatres, this hall, which has preserved its original form, is where the deputies of the various Crownlands of the old Monarchy met. Today it serves as the venue for sittings of the Federal Assembly and for major events.
- National Council Chamber: Used, at the time of the Monarchy, for sittings of the Herrenhaus (House of Lords), the hall was completely destroyed towards the end of the Second World War. It was rebuilt in the 1950s to serve for the sittings of the National Council.
- Federal Council Chamber: The hall, which served during the Monarchy as the anteroom and concourse of the Members of the Herrenhaus, is adorned above the seats of the Presidency by the coats of arms of the nine Federal Provinces which recall its current function as the chamber of the representatives of the Austrian provinces
