Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union (SECG)
17 - 18 September, Austria Center Vienna
On the basis of Article 13 of the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union (Fiscal Treaty), which entered into force on 1 January 2013, a new parliamentary body, the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union” was established the same year. The first meeting took place under the Lithuanian EU presidency in Vilnius in October 2013.
The Interparliamentary Conference on SECG
To ensure democratic accountability in the area of economic governance and budgetary policy in the EU, this conference enables a stronger involvement of the national parliaments in the debates on economic coordination of the EU. Furthermore, it facilitates an enhanced exchange of views on economic governance and budget policy between the European Commission, the European Parliament and the national parliaments on a regular basis.
The meeting takes place twice a year: In the first half of the year the conference is held in Brussels within the framework of the “European Parliamentary Week” and co-chaired by representatives of the European Parliament. In the second half of the year the meeting takes place in the member state holding the presidency. The composition of the delegations is determined by each national parliament. Two delegates of each candidate country are invited as observers.
During the Austrian Presidency the Chairperson of the Finance Committee of the National Council, Karlheinz Kopf (ÖVP), will preside over the meeting.
The agenda will include current matters of budgetary and fiscal policy such as the Multiannual Framework or the Projects in support of the completion and deepening of the economic and monetary union.
The conference is open to the public via livestream.
The Austrian Presidency has implemented an online registration system for all meetings.
