Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union (SECG)

On the basis of Article 13 of the Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union (Fiscal Treaty), which entered into force on 1 January 2013, a new parliamentary body, the Interparliamentary Conference on Stability, Economic Coordination and Governance in the European Union” was established the same year. The first meeting took place under the Lithuanian EU presidency in Vilna in October 2013.
The Interparliamentary Conference on SECG
To ensure democratic accountability in the area of economic governance and budgetary policy in the EU, this conference intends to involve the national parliaments more in the debates on economic coordination of the EU. Furthermore the exchange on economic governance and budget policy between the European Commission, the European Parliament und the national parliaments shall be strengthened and put on a regular framework.
The meeting takes place twice a year. In the first half of the year the conference is held in Brussels in the European Parliament within the framework of the “European Parliamentary Week” In the second half of the year the meeting is scheduled in the member state holding the presidency. The composition of the delegations is determined by each national parliament. Two delegates of each candidate country are invited as observers.
During the Austrian Presidency the Chairperson of the Finance Committee of the National Council, Karlheinz Kopf (ÖVP), will preside over the meeting.
The agenda will include current matters of budgetary and fiscal policy such as the Multiannual Framework or the projects of the completion and deepening of the economic and monetary union.
The conference is open to the public via livestream.
Access to the meetings within the Parliamentary Dimension will be possible only with valid accreditation.

For the conferences taking place at the Hofburg/Parliament and at the Erste Campus the permanent accreditation from the Austrian Parliament is also valid. The dates will be individually announced prior to the conference.
