Welcome to the DemocracyQuarter!
The Parliament Building, a magnificent edifice by Theophil Hansen which dates back to the 19th century, is getting on in years and needs major renovation. Parliament’s home will therefore turn into a building site for the next few years, but parliamentary business will continue unhindered and undisturbed – at different locations which form a coherent area: the DemocracyQuarter. The Austrian Parliament and its work will thus enjoy high visibility, and it will of course remain possible for the interested public to visit the National Council and the Federal Council and to obtain information on parliamentary activities.
Access for visitors of plenary sittings and for guided tours will be at the Main Entrance at Josefsplatz. On Heldenplatz, services for the public will be offered at two additional locations: the Democracy Workshop in the Ring Pavilion, and the Info Point Platz.Mit.Bestimmung in the Burg Pavilion. In front of the historical Parliament Building, the Info Point Bau.Stelle informs about the ongoing renovation. The Parliamentary Librar y’s services will be available at the Palais Epstein.
The Info Point Bau.Stelle informs about the renovation, explains why the renovation is necessary and what are the next stages of the project. A branch of the Parliament Shop offers the opportunity to buy tickets for guided tours, souvenirs and publications.
The Parliamentary Library is at your service at Palais Epstein. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For further information please call +43 1 401 10-2285 or visit the Library’s website www.parlament.gv.at/bibliothek.
The Democracy Workshop will reopen its doors to children and young people on the ground floor of the Ring Pavilion on 18 September 2017. It will continue to offer its wide range of different workshops. For more information and for registration please refer to the website www.demokratiewebstatt.at.
The Info Point Platz.Mit.Bestimmung, accommodated on the Burg Pavilion’s ground floor, provides interactive information on democracy and the parliamentary system. A special focus is devoted to the history of the Heldenplatz and to archaeological findings. A branch of the Parliament Shop sells tickets for guided tours and souvenirs and offers a wide variety of information leaflets and booklets.
The Main Entrance at Josefsplatz is the starting point of guided tours and also the entrance for visitors of National and Federal Council sittings. It also offers general information, a souvenir shop and an opportunity to buy tickets for guided tours.
