Gustav Ritter von Epstein saw his palace not only as a residence that provided an inspiring ambience for himself and his family, but also as a venue for like-minded people with whom the Epsteins could enjoy the pleasures of the arts - a salon typical of the Ringstrasse society. The Epsteins devoted particular attention to the planning of their soirées musicales.

However, life in the palace was multi-faceted: Behind the scenes was the day-to-day work of the servants, who lived in the rear part of the building, and there were also the busy offices of the Epstein company on the ground floor, where the Epstein bank also maintained a generously endowed welfare fund.
