Emilie von Epstein, Gustav Ritter von Epstein's widow, remained moderately well off. As her elder son Friedrich had already died before his father, she had the means to send her younger son Leopold to university, where he read law, but unfortunately he, also, died young.

After their conversion to Christianity, her daughters Caroline and Margarethe married into the families of Hungarian civil servants and military officers. Thus, after Prague and Vienna, Budapest became the home of the Epstein family.
