Inge Posch-Gruska

Inge Posch-Gruska took on the office of President of the Austrian Federal Council, the Upper Chamber of the Austrian Parliament, on 1 July 2018. She chairs the Federal Council’s Committee for Children's Rights, one of only four children’s rights committee set up in Europe. In 2007, Inge Posch-Gruska was elected Mayor of Hirm in Burgenland, where she previously served as Deputy Mayor for seven years and as local councillor before that. From 2005 to 2010, Inge Posch-Gruska was a member of the Burgenland Diet. She held the chair for Burgenland of the Austrian Kinderfreunde, a lobby group representing the interests of children and families in Austria, and she was a member of this association’s national board. For her term as President of the Federal Council she intends to focus on children's rights, devoting particular attention to the participation of children at local level.
