Marek Kuchciński

He was born on August 9, 1955 in Przemyśl.
In the 80s in Przemyśl, he organized the Independent Culture (Kultura Niezależna). He was the publisher and co-editor of „Strych Kulturalny” quarterly. He co-organized the Days of Christian Culture in Przemyśl and "Man - God - World” international independent art exhibition. Activist of the independent peasants’ movement - inter alia, he was a member of the All-Poland Farmers' Resistance Committee. In 1985 arrested for political activity.

He co-founded the Solidarity Citizens' Committee in the province of Przemyśl in 1989. In 1990-1992 he was a member of the 'S‘ National Citizens' Committee of Lech Walesa. From 1990 till 1999 he was a member of the to the Center Alliance (PC), and headed the PC organisation in the province of Przemyśl.

He was the president of the Cultural Association of Przemyśl that published, inter alia, “Spojrzenia Przemyskie” monthly, vice-president of the Rzeszów Branch of the Polish Journalists Association, and chaired the Polish Radio Rzeszów programming board.

In 1994 - 1999, he was a councilman of the city of Przemyśl, and then until 2001 he was the Vice Governor of the Podkarpackie Province.

Since 2001, he has been the deputy to the parliament of each consecutive term of office as the representative of PiS (Law and Justice Party). On August 4, 2010, he was elected the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm of the sixth term, and on November 8, 2011, he was elected the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm of the seventh term.

He chaired the Committee of Administration and Internal Affairs and the Committee on the Environment, Natural Resources and Forestry. He was deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Republic of Poland and the Ukraine and a member of the Polish - Hungarian Parliamentary Group. Since 2010, as the Deputy Speaker of the Sejm, he has initiated a series of meetings under the conference of the “Europe of the Carpathians” cycle, that aims inter alia at strengthening the cooperation in all areas of public activity and the development of an international network of MPs working for the sustainable development of the Carpathians.

On November 12, 2015, by the decision of the Chamber, he was appointed the Speaker of the Sejm of the eighth term.
He is a honorary holder of, inter alia, the Award of the Polish Radio and Television in Rzeszów and the Governor of Przemyśl’s Award for achievements in the cultural field. He was awarded the „Nowiny” Laurel in the category “Politician of 2003”.

Married, has three children.
