Conference of Speakers of the European Union Parliaments on 8 and 9 April

The meeting will focus on European Neighbourhood Policy and the upcoming European elections
Vienna (PK) - Following numerous interparliamentary conferences in Vienna and Brussels within the framework of the Austrian European Council Presidency, the Austrian Parliament will now be hosting the Conference of Speakers of the European Union Parliaments on 8 and 9 April. Around 50 parliamentary speakers from all over Europe are expected to attend the conference at the invitation of Austrian National Council President Wolfgang Sobotka and Austrian Federal Council President Ingo Appé, where they will discuss European Neighbourhood Policy and the upcoming European elections.
The conference will be opened at 3 pm on 8 April by First Vice-President of the European Parliament Mairead McGuinness. The speakers of the European Union parliaments will then discuss the European Union and its neighbours. Introductory statements will be given by Slovak National Council Speaker Andrej Danko, Hellenic Parliament Speaker Nikos Voutsis and Italian Chamber of Deputies President Roberto Fico.
The second day of the conference will start at 9:30 am on 9 April and will be devoted to the upcoming European elections. The speakers of the European Union parliaments will centre their discussions in particular on future cooperation between the national parliaments and European institutions. German Bundestag President Wolfgang Schäuble, Dutch Eerste Kammer President Ankie Broekers-Knol, French Sénat President Gérard Larcher and Polish Sejm Marshal Marek Kuchciński will also address the conference.
Accreditation for representatives of the media
The Mediaservice of the Parliamentary Administration (pressEU2018@parlament.gv.at) is responsible for issuing media accreditation for the Conference of Speakers of the European Union Parliaments to be held at the Vienna Konzerthaus concert hall. Permanent accreditation for the Austrian Parliament is valid on those days as well; advance notification is required.
Accreditation badges will be issued on both conference days at the media accreditation desk located at the Vienna Konzerthaus. Photo identification is required for media accreditation, as well as a valid press card or letter of assignment from your media Organisation.
