Member of the German Bundestag
Dr. h.c. Hans Michelbach is a member of the Bundestag and an entrepreneur. He has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1994, initially via the CSU state list in Bavaria and later, as of 2002, as a directly elected member of the constituency of Coburg/Kronach. He is a member and chairman of the CDU/CSU faction in the Bundestag Finance Committee, deputy chairman of the CSU Landesgruppe in the German Bundestag, deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU faction's parliamentary group for small and medium-sized enterprises (PKM), and he is a member of the executive board of the CDU/CSU faction. He is also a member of the CSU Landesvorstand, chairman of the CSU-Mittelstands-Union (MU) and deputy chairman of the CDU/CSU-Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsvereinigung (MIT).
Dr. h.c. Michelbach was born on 3 May 1949 in Gemünden am Main in Central Franconia. He is married and the father of three daughters.
He completed his schooling at the Franz-Ludwig-von-Erthal-Gymnasium in Lohr am Main, followed by training as a wholesale and retail merchant and attendance at the Wirtschaftsfachschule für Management und Betriebswirtschaft. Subsequently, he held the position of assistant to the Board in a retail group. In 1972 he joined his parents' company. He founded a number of companies, including the establishment of the MIBEG Investment Group. In 1978, Dr. h.c. Michelbach was elected Deputy Mayor of the City of Gemünden am Main and from 1982 to 1994 held the office of Mayor of the city.
Dr. h.c. Michelbach holds numerous honorary posts. He is a member of the executive committee of the German Retail Federation (HDE). Chairman of BWK Coburg/Kronach, a member of the Coburg Chamber of Industry and Commerce and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Coburg University of Applied Sciences and Arts, President of the Coburg Gymnasts’ Association and Chairman of the Scherenburg Festival.
