Karlheinz Kopf

Karlheinz Kopf was born on 27 June 1957 in Hohenems, Vorarlberg as the son of an entrepreneurial family based in Altach. After his training at the Bregenz business school, he held his first job in 1976 as an assistant to the management at the textile company Huber Trikot in Götzis. In 1982 he was appointed head of human resources and authorized signatory of the company. In 1991 he took up the same function at Wolford AG in Bregenz. After three years, Karlheinz Kopf joined Sportbau Walser GmbH as managing partner. He is married with two children.

His political career began as a member of the municipal council of Altach from 1985 to 1999. He has been a member of the Austrian National Council since 1994. He has held various positions in the ÖVP: From 2000, until his election as chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary group in 2008, he was secretary general of the ÖVP Wirtschaftsbund. He served as chairman of the parliamentary group until 2013. On 29 October 2013, Kopf was elected Second President of the National Council, a position he held until November 2017. Since that time, Kopf has been Chairman of the Finance Committee.

On 1 July 2018, Kopf was appointed Secretary General of the Austrian Federal Economic Chamber.
