Foundations and basic principles

The President of the National Council established the Budget Office in July 2012 to support the National Council in its deliberations, decision-making, and oversight of the budget management of the Federal Government. The establishment of the Budget Office was based on a political agreement among the five parties represented in Parliament at the time. Further details on the Budget Office’s structure, mandate, and tasks are set out in a committee statement by the Budget Committee. This statement also serves as the basis for the Budget Office's catalogue of products and services, which was agreed with the budget spokespersons of the political parties. The Budget Office carries out its tasks in a non-partisan manner. It acts independently and adheres to the principles of impartiality, equidistance from all parliamentary groups, and transparency. All analyses are published on the Parliament's website.
