The Uses of Palais Epstein

Palais Epstein has served numerous purposes in the 130 years of its existence:

It was used as a residential and commercial building - at first by the Epstein family, then by the British Gas Company, as an office building - headquarters of the Administrative Court, the Vienna Schools Council and, at the time of National Socialist rule, the construction department of the Reich Governor’s office; after the end of the war, it was the seat of the Soviet City Commandantura, for a short time a dependency of the Academy of Music and the Performing Arts, then once again the home of the Vienna Schools Council, until it was finally decided that it should be placed at the disposal of Parliament..
