Barrier-free Arrival

Location of the Parliament Building - address

Dr. Karl Renner-Ring 3
1017 Vienna

The main entrance is behind the Pallas Athena fountain.

It is located in the middle, below the driveway for cars.

The curved, historic access ramps on the sides do not lead to the main entrance for visitors.

These ramps are not barrier-free because they are too steep (10-17%).

They lead to the historic entrance at the Portico, which can be reached by car for special occasions and for prominent state visitors.

Information on the tactile floor guidance system from crossing the Ring Road to the Parliament Building

There is a tactile floor guidance system to the main entrance. This begins at the Ring Road pedestrian crossing by the right-hand corner of the Parliament Building.
Follow the tactile floor guidance system straight ahead for about four meters.
Turn left and continue parallel to the Ring Road.
Then take the first junction to the right, and continue straight ahead.
The tactile floor guidance system will lead you to the steps. The handrail is on the left-hand side.
Climb ten steps. Then continue straight ahead to the wall.
Turn left along the wall to the entrance doors. There are five double doors. They are each 210 cm wide.

Attention: The tactile floor guidance system starts at the middle door. The middle door opens automatically. The other doors must be opened manually.

Access with steps

In front of the main entrance, there is a set of wide steps. They are parallel to the Ring Road and the main entrance. There are 8-10 steps, and handrails in six places. On the left-hand side, the first step is like a landing. It is about three times deeper than the rest of the steps.

Access without steps

You can reach the main entrance without steps via the driveway on the left-hand side of the Building. The best route with the lowest gradient is marked by white lines on the ground. The slope is about 8 meters long. It leads to a passage through the wall up to the main entrance.
