Parliamentary Symposium: An Open and Inclusive Society. The Role and Mission of Equality Bodies

Content

The new Standard Directives of the European Union provide important impulses for future resources and organisational set-ups of European equality bodies. The symposium functioned as a platform for dialogue, aiming to facilitate an effective implementation of the new requirements for Austrian equality bodies. Among other things, the Directives establish resources and standards for rights of action and independence. Additionally, they implement standards and resources for equality bodies‘ proactive work.

Best practice examples provided important inputs for innovative rights of action, for the expansion of proactive work, and for the independence of equality bodies in Austria. Furthermore, representatives from both politics and civil society as well as Austrian equality bodies discussed how equality bodies need to adjust in order to successfully fulfil their societal mission.
