The Simon Wiesenthal Prize has been awarded for the fourth time and numerous civil society initiatives have once again submitted their projects. Named after the architect, writer and publicist Simon Wiesenthal (1908-2005) and endowed with 30,000 euros, the prize honors civil society engagement against anti-Semitism and education about the Holocaust. The National Fund of the Republic of Austria received around 230 applications from a total of 32 countries - including Europe, North, Central and South America, as well as the Middle East, Africa and Australia. The projects submitted provide impressive impulses in the international commitment against anti-Semitism and at the same time strengthen the collective historical awareness. This year's award ceremony has once again payed tribute to contemporary witnesses whose individual life stories and memories make an indispensable contribution to passing on and preserving the memory of the Shoah.
